Entry Level Engineer/Estimator (Cincinnati)

Founded in 1960, Trans Ash is a rapidly growing civil land construction & environmental company. We are expanding our Engineering Department and are seeking to add an entry-level Engineer / Estimator to work on a variety of projects with our valued customers in the utility industry. This position will be based out of the home office in Cincinnati, OH, but will include +/- 15% of overnight travel to our out-of-town construction sites.  The Entry Level Engineer/Estimator position is a great opportunity to learn the estimating process for construction projects ranging in value from ten million to two hundred million dollars. This role is excellent preparation for higher positions in the engineering, project controls, quality, project management, or operations departments at Trans Ash.

Pay Information: 

$65,800 - $97,850 Annually, subject to skill and experience level

Semi Monthly Pay

Job Description:

The Engineer / Estimator (Estimator 2) is responsible for assisting in the creation of pricing, proposals, and project support for large-scale civil construction projects.  Work will include many aspects of project estimation, scheduling, and project management for these projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to learn to perform all aspects of project estimation including performing quantity takeoffs, calculating cost, assembling proposals, technical writing, and participate in customer-facing presentations.
  • Performs work both in the field and in an office environment.
  • Manage quality of work to include accuracy, thoroughness, and clarity.
  • Assist with the development of cost estimates and proposals.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in estimating software, scheduling software, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, aerial surveying, and other engineering functions.
  • Attends pre-bid and post-bid meetings and documents specific meeting details.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of as-built drawings for project milestones.
  • Accommodate client and job site needs by responding to all inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • Required Education: Possess a 4-year degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Ideal Candidate will have some construction COOP or Job experience in civil construction engineering, estimating, project management, project controls or in a similar role.

Knowledge / Skills Requirements:

  • Must be professional at all times, as the position is customer-facing.
  • Must be motivated to learn the estimating trade.
  • Proficient with business software: Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Experience with Estimating and Scheduling software is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus. 
  • Experience with surveying is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Overnight travel to our job sites will be required at times, anticipated to be +/- 15% of workdays.  
  • Must be physically able to perform work outside.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, MVR, and background check.
  • Must be able to work in a construction environment.
  • Must be willing to work after regular business hours with work on weekends, and some holidays when necessary.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
